Medical fund sponsors lecture series
The Jamestown Medical Fund announced this week the first in a new Medical Lecture Series, sponsored by the fund.
The lectures will address some of the many medicalrelated subjects that affect the Jamestown community, trying to inform, answer questions and help residents find resources to help them better deal with difficult and trying medical situations.
The first talk is titled "Dying for a Drink: The Hidden Epidemic of Alcoholism," which will be presented by Dr. Santi Meunier and Dr. Joseph England at the Jamestown library on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
This lecture is for everyone in the community who has been affected by alcoholism. The talk will address the disease itself, the facts, the myths and misconceptions, the stages, treatment, and other related issues associated with alcoholism, such as depression.
Dr. Santi Meunier is a practicing psychologist, working in the field of addiction and dysfunctional family issues for 25 years and has a Ph.D. in chemical dependency.
Dr. Joseph England is a physician with Jamestown Family Practice.
The lecture is sponsored by the Jamestown Medical Fund, a fund that was created to help those in town that may need help "bridging the gap," when medical expenses vital to their continued health exceed their ability to pay. Inquiries or applications for financial aid from the JMF can be sent to Jamestown Medical Fund, P.O. Box 236, Jamestown, RI 02835 or call 423-2464.
