Scientists discuss landfill development

Landfill to Landmark is the topic of a talk on brownfields development by environmental experts on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Save The Bay Center, 100 Save The Bay Drive in Providence.

Scientists will discuss the challenge of transforming the former landfill at Fields Point to the home of Save The Bay, and lessons learned for future coastal brownsfield development. The panelists will include Matt Dalbey of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Policy, Economics and Innovation; Terry Gray of the state Department of Environmental Management, assistant director for Air, Waste & Compliance; Grover Fugate, executive director of the state Coastal Resources Management Council and Curt Spaulding of Save The Bay,

The term "brownfield site" means real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.
