Winter forest program set to run in Middletown
The Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown will sponsor a program this Saturday, Jan. 28, called "Reading the Winter Forest," with naturalist Garry Plunkett. The program runs from 1 to 3 p.m.
Join forest ecologist Garry Plunkett for a talk on winter tree identification, followed by a walk on the trails. Winter is a great time to take a closer look at the form of the trees as well as the shape of the land, and Plunkett will help participants gain a greater appreciation for interesting details that might not be noticed at other times of year.
Plunkett has given this popular program at the sanctuary before, and this year will discuss the history of the forests of Aquidneck Island and the joys of observing trees and nature in winter. The program costs $5 for nonmembers and $3 for members of Norman Bird Sanctuary or the Rhode Island Wild Plant Society.
