Music the key to learning with kindermusik

Kindermusik Family Time, a new musical learning program for families with children ages newborn through seven, will take place Mondays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m., beginning Feb. 12 for 10 weeks. The sessions will be conducted at St. Matthew's church, in the children's chapel, 87 Narragansett Ave., by Cindy Olsen, a Kindermusik licensed educator.

A free demonstration session is set for Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

The program is being provided by the Ready Set Play with Cindy of Jamestown, which this week began the Kindermusik Village series for newborns through age 18 months and their parents on Mondays at 9:15 a.m. at the church.

Kindermusik is a classroom learning experience to promote cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and language skills through music. The new Family Time curriculum applies musical and developmental learning in a multi-age, multi-child, family environment. The program uses music to help children develop social skills necessary to share, take turns, and strengthen emotional bonds among family members. Sessions are based on the award-winning principles of Kindermusik International that music has the power to enhance lives, to foster a sense of community, and to tap the unique gifts that each child has.
