Library offers new magazine index database

The public libraries in Rhode Island purchased a database for library card holders in the state. At the Jamestown library, patrons can access this world of information by going to the library's homepage at www.jamestownri.com/library and clicking on the words "Magazine Index" in the column headed "Catalogs and Databases."

Anyone who has difficulty finding the information they need can come into the library or call 423- 7280 for assistance.

The new database includes:

Alt HealthWatch: Full texts for 180 publications dating back to 1990.

Academic Search Premier: Full texts for nearly 4,500 journals PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for 100 journals. Database updated daily.

Business Source Premier: Full texts for more than 2,300 journals. Includes marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. Database updated daily.

Regional Business News: Incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. Database updated daily.

MasterFILE Premier: Designed for public libraries, this multidisciplinary database provides full texts for more than 1,730 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Also included are nearly 500 full-text reference books, 84,774 biographies, 100,554 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 235,186 photos, maps and flags. Database updated daily.

Health Source - Consumer Edition: Health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. More than 130 full-text, consumer health magazines. Database updated daily.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition. Some 550 scholarly full-text journals focusing on many medical disciplines and abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals. Database updated daily.

Clinical Pharmacology: Up-todate, concise and clinically-relevant drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs, hard-to-find herbal and nutritional supplements, overthe counter products and new and investigational drugs.

Newspaper Source: Full texts for 25 U.S. and international newspapers. The database also contains full-text television and radio news transcripts, and selected full texts for more than 260 U.S. regional newspapers. Database updated daily.

Primary Search: Full texts for 70 popular, magazines for elementary school research. All full-text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator and fulltext information dates as far back as 1990. Database updated daily.

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia: Over 25,000 entries covering a variety of subjects.

EBSCO Animals: In-depth information on topics relating to animals.

TOPICsearch: Current events database allows researchers to explore social, political & economic issues, scientific discoveries and other popular topics discussed in today's classrooms. Full text for 139,800 articles from more than 4,800 diverse sources.
