This week islanders prepared for a coastal winter storm and were greeted by a mixture of snow, sleet and rain. Early Wednesday a few hardy snowflakes were discernable in the streetlights. The IRS sent 6,000 public libraries incorrect 1040X forms and instructions. The incorrect forms bear the revision date, "REV. December 2006." The correct forms have a revision date of February 2007. Twenty-five copies of the correct 1040X forms and 10 copies of instruction have not arrived at the affected libraries and will not be here until March. More...

Elizabeth Delude-Dix, executive producer of several documentaries on slavery in Rhode Island, will speak at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church this Sunday, Feb. 18. Dr. Steve Groskin will join Dr. Joe England and Nurse Practitioner Kathy Westall in the Jamestown Family Practice beginning in April. Replacing Dr. Kyle Murray, who left two weeks ago to reside in New Hampshire, Dr. Groskin comes to the island from Vermont, where he has had his own practice in Stowe for nine years. Isabel Perry Young, 91, formerly of Jamestown passed away peacefully in Las Vegas, Nev., on Jan. 27, 2007. She was the wife of the late Joe Young and the widow of the late Robert Howe. Born and raised in Jamestown, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Perry and moved to Las Vegas in 1965. More...
