Joyce Ioanes, 62
J o y c e was born in Wa s h i n g - ton, D.C., and was the daughter of Irma "Betty" Ioanes and the late Raymond Ioanes. Joyce was an attorney and the assistant mental health advocate for the state of Rhode Island for 30 years. She was a civil libertarian, compassionate mentor, and spirited champion who worked tirelessly for the rights of the mentally ill.
Joyce was an avid sports fan, bike rider, and gardener. Joyce loved the beach and will be remembered forever for her incredible sense of humor.
She graduated from Dunbarton College in Washington, D.C.; received a master's in psychiatric social work from Simmons College in Boston, and earned her law degree from Suffolk University.
Besides her partner Deb and her mother Betty, she leaves her sister Barbara Ioanes, nephew Scott Andrews, aunt Blanche Blazo, and numerous friends.
Gifts may be made in Joyce's memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Rhode Island.
