Edward W. Day, Jr., 76

Edward W. Day, Jr., 76, of Conanicus Avenue, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007 at Roger William Medical Center. He was the former husband of Ann P. (Torphy) Day.

Born in Cranston, a son of the late Honorable Edward W. and Madeline (Reagan) Day, he lived in Cranston most of his life, summering in Plum Beach and retiring in Jamestown.

Day served in the US Navy and received degrees from Brown University and Boston College Law School. He was an Attorney with Gardner, Sawyer, Cottam, Gates, Day & Sloan before retiring. In the 1960s, he was the Cranston City Solicitor. He was on the Ethics Committee for the Rhode Island Bar Association. He was an active member of the Jamestown Community Garden Co-Op. He was a communicant of St. Mark Church.

Besides his former wife he leaves his three children, Edward W. Day, III of Westerly, Maria Day Hyde and Ann P. Moone both of North Kingstown; a sister, Martha Quinn of West Warwick; nine grandchildren, Patricia, Madeline, Katherine, Jennelle, Peter, Mikhail, Mason, Faith and Gabriella and one great-grandson, Elijah. He was the brother of the late Virginia Schortman and Madeline "Midge" Cuzzone.

His Funeral was held March 3 from the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark Church followed. Burial was in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Jamestown Community Garden, C/O Bob & Lynda Sutton, 28 Rosemary Lane, Jamestown, RI 02835 will be appreciated.
