Jamestown resident Kathryn Safford was named the North Kingstown High School representative to the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership (HOBY) program, which is offered to high school sophomores. Safford was nominated after writing a leadership essay that was evaluated and judged by a school faculty nominating panel. The three-day HOBY seminar will take place from June 8 through June 10. Over the past few years the island's pets have been held hostage by coyotes in Jamestown. I recall a number of years ago the divisiveness on this island when the leash law was passed. Now our dogs can rarely go out in their own backyards without being on a leash or having their owner right next to them because of this unwelcome predator. More...

Martha Milot will teach "Exploring Abstraction" for the adult novice on Wednesday, April 18th, from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m, Focusing on reproductions of paintings, students will discuss theories of abstraction and create a collage of their own. Retired Master Sgt. Donald J. Neil, a 22-year Army veteran, was killed outside Najaf in Iraq. He was killed protecting his colleagues from the sudden detonation of a 155mm. munition. He was an explosive ordinance disposal expert. In addition, Master Sgt. Neil had protected every president from President Carter through President George Bush.
