Betty Jane Hagenmiller, 80
Mrs. Betty Jane Hagenmiller, wife of Harold Hagenmiller, died on March 19, 2007 in West Palm Beach, Fla. She was born in Bar Harbor, Maine, on November 30, 1926. She is the daughter of George and Angie Keene Sheehan. Her family moved to Jamestown when she was 4 years old to live near her fraternal grandparents, Dennis and Hannah Sheehan.
Betty leaves four children, Judy Smith, Keith, Kevin and Ronnie Hagenmiller, a daughter-in-law Donna Hagenmiller, a former sonin law, Joseph Smith and seven grandchildren. She is survived by her twin brother, William S. Sheehan, and sister-in-law Marion Sheehan of Jamestown, as well as many nieces and nephews in Florida and throughout the New England states. She was the sister of the late Dennis and George Sheehan.
Betty worked for the Industrial National Bank of Jamestown as a teller for twenty years. After retiring from the Citizen's Bank of West Palm Beach, Fla., she continued her career as a teller at the Palm Beach Kennel Club.
Betty enjoyed sports and played on the Citizen's Bank's softball team well into her fifties. Betty and her husband spent many hours following the sports careers of her sons and grandchildren who played soccer, baseball and softball. She loved dancing and never missed the Tuesday card club at the Fernley Clubhouse.
Betty was the "Princess of the Party" at her recent 80th birthday celebration hosted by her friends and family in Florida. She loved Jamestown and was last here during the summer of 2005, when she enjoyed visiting her friends and relatives. She walked and rode around the island marveling at the many changes that have taken place over the 75 years since she moved here as a child. She was amazed at the changes in the old homes and the influx of new homes. She talked about the changes in the businesses of the town over the decades and the change in the waterfront, from the ferry landing to the construction of the new bridges.
