Farm Kids at Watson Farm.
This six-week outdoor afterschool
program, for kids in grades 5 and 6, begins on Friday April 27. The program offers the opportunity to explore and experience the various habitats that make up the 265-acre Watson Farm. Woodland, wetlands, shoreline, farm fields and barnyard are all parts of this working historic farm.
"Farm Kids" will get a chance to see life on the farm through the change of seasons, and at the same time develop nature observation skills. It is an exciting time on the farm with Sheep Shearing Day, gardens being planted and the birthing of lambs and calves. Most importantly the children will become a part of the farm community while learning about the history and future of agriculture on Conanicut Island.
The Watson Farm is a working farm owned by Historic New England a museum of cultural history managed by Don and Heather Minto. The "Farm Kids" program is a wonderful chance for students to wrap up the school week and begin the weekend with an adventure at Watson Farm. The program is on Friday afternoons from 3 to 5:30 p.m., on April 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25 and June 1. The registration fee is $ 40 for members of Historic New England and $60 for non-members.
