Spring concerts planned at URI
The University of Rhode Island will offer three concerts in April as part of its "Spring Slam" series.
The URI Symphony Orchestra will present its last concert of the academic year on Saturday, April 14, at 8 p.m. The winners of this year's annual solo competition will be featured and the URI wind ensemble will join the orchestra for the concert.
The University Chorus will present their concert on Sunday, April 15, at 3 p.m. The program, "Voices of the Land," will focus on the rich musical heritage of the United States.
A jazz concert, "Nine ensembles in Four Nights of Jazz," will take place on Tuesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. The Standards Combo, directed by faculty coach Dave Zinno, and the Afro-Cuban Ensemble, directed by faculty coach Eric Platz, will perform works in their respective styles.
All concerts will be held in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall off Upper College Road on URI's Kingston campus. Admission is $8 for the general public and $2 for students, with seating on a firstcome basis. The box office opens 45 minutes before each concert.
