Perry named to party post

The newly elected Chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Party has named Donna Perry of Jamestown as the Executive Director and Director of Communications for the state Republican Party.

Giovanni Cicione, a lawyer and GOP Party activist from Barrington, was elected chairman in a state party election held last month.

"I am confident the whole party will benefit from the energy, commitment, and political and media skills Donna brings to the table," says Cicione. "We are very fortunate she is coming on board."

Perry, who has lived in Jamestown since 2005, served as a parttime press aide in the Governor's media office in 2006. She has worked in politics, media relations, and broadcasting in Washington, D.C. and New York as well as Rhode Island. In Washington, DC, in the early 1990s, she was press secretary to former Rhode Island Congressman Ron Machtley and then worked as a communications aide at the Republican National Committee. In New York, in the late 1990s, she was an on-air anchor/reporter for a 24-hour cable news channel in the New York/New Jersey region. She later assisted in media relations to the Women's National Republican Club in Manhattan. In Rhode Island, she was an anchor/reporter for WPRO News in the late 1980s. She is a Cranston native and a graduate of Providence College.

Perry is active in town organizations as well as the state GOP. She has served this year as co-chairwoman of the Special Education Local Advisory Committee (SELAC) and is vice chair of the Jamestown GOP Town Committee.

She and her family were summer residents of Jamestown before permanently relocating to the island in 2005.
