Baseball parade details outlined
Town Councilors gave permission Monday to the Jamestown Baseball Association to conduct its annual opening day parade on Saturday.
They also praised parents and other volunteers for their work last weekend preparing ballfields and concession stands, as well as commending the town parks and recreation workers for assisting with the field work.
Anthony Rafanelli, president of the association, detailed the parade schedule. He said players ages 7 to 15 will gather at the Community Center at East Ferry at 8:30 a.m. to be grouped by ages for the march to the ballfields. He said instructional league players will gather at 8:30 a.m. at the fire station to board fire trucks to ride to the fields.
The parade will start from the Community Center at 8:45 a.m. with participants marching along Narragansett Avenue to the Lawn Avenue fields. Fire trucks with the youngest players will drive behind the marchers.
When assembled at the fields, participants will attend opening ceremonies, including an introduction of the teams.
Councilors were assured that town police coordination and assistance, including traffic control, had been arranged.
