Master gardener grants available
University of Rhode Island Master Gardeners are now accepting applications for their annual gardening educational grants to be awarded for 2008.
Each year the Master Gardener Association uses interest gained from its educational endowment fund to offer two grants of up to $750 each to non-profit entities such as community, civic and church groups or to school-based programs. Master Gardener community projects are also eligible.
Grant money is awarded for an educational program based on the principles of environmentally sound gardening practices endorsed by the association. Beautification projects are not eligible unless they include a significant educational component.
Persons and organizations who are interested in starting or enhancing a gardening-based education program are urged to log on to the Master Gardener website, www. urimga.org and select the URI MGA Endowment Grant to fill out the application. The deadline is Aug. 30.
Applications can also be obtained by contacting Paula Theroux, MGA public education coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or by writing to the URI Master Gardener Association, 3 East Alumni Avenue, Kingston, RI 02881.
