Spring tuba concert scheduled
The spring tubaphonia concert, entitled an "Armed Forces Salute," will be held Saturday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the North Kingstown High School auditorium.
This free concert features musicians from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. They are of all ages from middle school to senior citizens, playing an amazing assortment of low, conical brass horns including baritones and euphoniums ophecleids, helicons, sousaphones, and, tubas of all sizes. This performance occurs one week before Armed Forces' Day, so the band will parade the colors, and salute our veterans and armed forces with patriotic tunes, melodies and anthems. The audience ins invited to sing-along with the big brass. Nationally renowned tubist and conductor Gary Buttery will again lead the talented assemblage as he has for many years.
The concert is sponsored by the Wickford Branch of Centreville Bank, the North Kingstown Arts Council, and the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts. North Kingstown High School auditorium is a first rate, handicapped friendly, and acoustically suited for these great instruments.
