Arts camp registering for summer sessions

Variety and value are the key benefits of signing up for a Newport Art Museum summer youth workshop, art camp or class this summer.

Director Judy Hambleton and her staff are now registering children and teens for summer programs offered at the museum and at the Tiverton Four Corners Art Center. Weekly sessions and twoday workshops for young people ages 4 to 14 begin in mid-June and run through Aug. 24 in Newport and early July through Aug. 10 in Tiverton Four Corners.

"We really focus on offering great value through our camps and classes," said Hambleton. "Fees for the sessions are among the most reasonable anywhere in Rhode Island, and if you're a member of the Newport Art Museum, you get an even better deal." Members also receive discounts on many of the museum's other summer programs including the P.M. Musical Picnic Series and regular classes for all ages offered through the museum's art school, the Coleman Center for Creative Studies.

Fees for the summer youth workshops and art camps vary, but range from $40 for members/$50 for nonmembers to $195 for members/$210 for non-members per session. Summer classes and camps at the Tiverton Four Corners Art Center range from $25 to $115 for members and $130 for non-members. A small materials or studio fee may also apply. Financial assistance is available in some cases.

Classes, camps and workshops are filling up quickly so register early by telephone or in person at the Newport Art Museum's Education Office in the Coleman Centre for Creative Studies on Bellevue Avenue in Newport. For more information, call 848-2787 or visit www.newportartmuseum.com.
