Teaching kids about violence prevention
A dinner and discussion on violence prevention will take place at the Melrose Avenue School on Tuesday, May 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The dinner event is for all students in grades 4 to 8 and their parents.
The guest speaker is Lt. John Reis, a retired Providence police officer and president of PAVE (Partnership to Address Violence through Education). Lt. Reis works to strengthen students' empathy and conflict resolution skills as well as empowering students with strategies to use when dealing with difficult situations.
The event is sponsored by Jamestown Schools, Jamestown Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force, Jamestown Fire Dept., Jamestown Police Dept., Jamestown PTO, CODAC, and RI Juvenile Officers Association.
