Historical society collection on display at Newport art museum

The Newport Art Museum will host an exhibition featuring the Newport Historical Society's portrait and marine painting collection, much of which has been in storage for many years. Portraits large and small, anonymous and signed, plain and fancy, feature many of Newport's former citizens from the colonial period through the early 20th century.

There will be a reception for the exhibit on Thursday, June 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Newport Art Museum is located at 76 Bellevue Ave., across from Touro Park. Admission costs are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for students. There is no charge for museum members and children under 5. Admission is by donation on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to

p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The museum will stay open until 5 p.m. after Memorial Day.
