Fire department holds annual meeting
The Jamestown Fire Department held their annual meeting and election of officers on May 3 at the fire station.
Fire Chief James R. Bryer, Jr. who did not have to seek re-election this year, oversaw the meeting that was attended by nearly 60 active, trainee and retired members of the department.
Kenneth M. Gladding and Howard F. Tighe were re-elected to positions as deputy chiefs, which they have held since 2005. Other officers elected were Capt. Roy M. Richardson and Lt. Bert A. Dickinson, Jr. of Engine 1, Capt. Keith R. Godena and Lt. Thomas A. LaFazia of Engine 2, Capt. Brian D. Bryer and Lt. Steven J. Tiexiera of Engine 3, Capt. Michael D. Pinksaw, Jr. and Lt. Peter S. Roderick of Ladder 1, Capt. Richard A. Wing and Lt. Paul B. Balzer of the Tanker Company and Capt. Marcus L. Cochran and Lt. Alan D. Weaver of the Training Company.
Special presentations were made at the meeting to retired Chief Prescott E. Froberg, who has retired as an active member of the department. Froberg, who joined the department as a trainee in 1958, was appointed as a firefighter and assigned to Engine 1 in 1960. He later served as Training Lieutenant, Engine 1 Lieutenant, Engine
Captain and Deputy Chief before serving as Chief of the Department. Froberg served the department for forty-nine years as an active member. Other presentations were made to firefighter Lewis W. Kitts and Lt. Bert A. Dickinson, Jr. for their dedicated service during the past year.
Fire Department seeking new Members
The Jamestown Fire Department is seeking new members. The department, which provides fire suppression, technical rescue, motor vehicle accident response, marine rescue response and public service response to the community, is looking to increase its membership ranks. To be eligible to join the department a person has to be at least 15 years of age (with parental consent until age eighteen) and be a resident of Jamestown. A new member must complete one year of service on the training company before they are assigned as an active member. Training sessions are held on Thursday nights starting at 7 p.m. The department is looking for drivers, operators, scene assistants, firefighters and general help.
