Bonnot wins second prize in armed services art contest
The Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA), the nation's leading nonprofit organization supporting the families of junior enlisted military personnel, last week awarded second prize in the Marines category of its annual art contest to Sarah Bonnot, a fifth-grader who lives with her family in Jamestown. Winners were announced at a luncheon on Capitol Hill.
Ten-year-old Sarah, who is daughter of Lt. Col. Matthew and Lora Bonnot, will receive a $100 U.S. savings bond for her portrait of herself and her family.
The ASYMCA art contest asks children of service men and women from all branches of the military to submit illustrations of their military families. Winning pieces will be featured on a poster sponsored by GEICO Direct for Military Family Month (November), which will be distributed to Members of Congress and the Department of Defense, and displayed on ASYMCA's Web site. First- and second-place prizes were awarded for each branch: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, National Guard/Reserves and Navy.
