Some dogs are wired wrong
      Tie them up, they won't shut up. Yelp, yelp, yelp. Rude wake up calls. Frenetic daily cycles of high, stiletto-like yelps are an unbearably toxic affront to anyone within earshot that isn't deaf. The bottom line is a wrong dog doesn't belong in a civilized neighborhood. A wrong dog disturbs the peace, ergo a wrong dog is against the law.

Hull Cove is the new town dump
      In the summer of 2004, Rhode Island had 380 beach closings at 19 coastal beaches. Water quality plummets when it rains due to contaminated runoff from the streets or storm drain systems that feed directly into the ocean. Two beaches that come to mind are Easton's Beach in Newport and Scarborough State beach in Narragansett.

Highway barn decision factors
      I had the opportunity to attend the Town Council work session that was held on May 21 for the purpose of discussing the site alternatives for the proposed DPW highway garage facility. The primary issues under discussion included: (1) Which alternative is the most suitable and cost-effective site?, and (2) Who should be the "decider" in this site-selection?

Concerns about NK fishing pier
      It is my belief that the proposed North Kingstown fishing pier and adjacent park located at the old Jamestown bridge site will be an extravagantly costly albatross to the state and town in dollars, in adverse environmental impact, and in negative social consequences.

Tick controls pose potential hazards
      Last Saturday I attended the Tick Control Awareness Day on behalf of the Jamestown Conservation Commission. There is no question that the spread of disease by ticks is a serious problem in Rhode Island and the presenters from URI did an excellent job of informing us on the hazards of tick bites.
