Summer dance camp being organized

Mary Beth Murphy will teach a summer dance camp for children ages 4 to 12 at the Jamestown Recreation Department's dance studio located at 32 Pemberton Ave. during the months of July and August.

Creative Dance for children ages 4 and 5 years will explore a story or theme through movement, imagery, creative play and props. The class meets Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during the weeks beginning July 9, July 16 and Aug. 1. The cost is $65 per week.

Young Dancers, for children ages 6 to 8 years old meets Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. during the weeks of July 9, July 16 and Aug. 6 and students will have a daily technique class. The balance of each day will consist of classes in jazz/hip hop, modern dance, acting and make-up for the stage. Students will also learn how to watch a dance performance and how to make up their own dances. The cost is $110 per week.

Pre-Teen Dance, for 9-12 yearolds will meet Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., during the weeks of July 23 and July 30. The class consists of daily technique followed by a variety of experiences such as improvisation, choreography, jazz/hip hop, modern dance, make-up, acting for dancers and dance criticism. The cost is $150 per week.

Students may enroll for one, two or three weeks. Register by June 29 at the community center. For more information, call Mary Beth at 423-2691.
