Latin dance classes continue

The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department will be starting new sessions of its two adult dance/exercise classes on Thursday evenings at the community center beginning June 7.

Latin Workout will run from 6 to 7 p.m., and will be followed by Latin Beginners Dance, from 7 to 8 p.m. Classes will be on June 7, 13, 20, 27 and July 12 and 26.

For Latin Workout, no partner is necessary. Participants will learn basic rhythms of merengue, cha-cha, rumba and samba. It's a chance to get the feet moving to beautiful and exciting Latin music. Latin dance uses every part of the body. It is fun, aerobic, and it will increase flexibility. Bring comfortable clothes and shoes with a smooth sole to swivel and turn.

Latin Beginners is a class for partner dancing, but dancers may still join without a partner. The class is both romantic and fun. By dancing the merengue and cha-cha with a partner, dancers are gearing up for the faster pace of salsa dancing in future classes.

Learn the basic steps and skill to lead and follow in partner dancing.

Both classes are taught by Kana Kubota.

Kubota has previously taught at Dance New York, New York Athletic Club, Greenwich House Music School, Rivertown Art Council, and many other locations. For more information, call 423-7260. Registration forms are available at the community center or can be downloaded from www.jamestownri. net/rec/rec.html.
