Botanical garden visit set

The Quononoquott Garden Club will take a trip to the Roger Williams Park Botanical Garden as part of their June 12 monthly meeting.

Opened to the public in March of this year, the new center offers the largest, at 12,000 square feet, public display gardens in New England. It also features a 40- foottall conservatory, as well as a 68-foot linear pool. The club has long been a supporter of this project.

After the business meeting on the park grounds, the hospitality team will provide a picnic lunch for everyone to enjoy to celebrate the hard work and success of the 2007 plant sale. Bring a lawn chair. Everyone will meet at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's church to carpool to Providence.

Contest underway

The annual Jamestown Civic Beautification Contest has begun, and merchants in the village are reminded to get their window boxes, container gardens and inground gardens in shape in time for judging in late July.

Ribbons will be awarded in all categories for first, second and honorable mentions. For more information, contact Betty Ann Taylor at 423-0120.
