Fort Adams day salutes military families

The Fort Adams Trust announces its 3rd Annual Family Day set for Saturday, June 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, June 10.

Admission is free for the whole family.

This year's theme is a Salute to Military Families with a chance to see the Youth Overnight Barracks - the Fort's latest restoration project! The day will be filled with activities, games and entertainment. There will be a petting zoo, a sheep herding demonstration, clowns, face painting, football toss and fast pitch speed cages, an inflatable moon bounce, kayak demonstrations, a rock climbing wall, military vehicles and a fire truck on display.

Live entertainment will include story telling by Marc Kohler, music by Mifflin Lowe and others. MetLife will provide fingerprints for kids and the Potter League will provide ID tags for pets, but participants are advised not to bring pets to the event.

The Rhode Island Blood Center will be holding a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A variety of arts and crafts and food vendors will have products available for purchase all day. Free parking is available.

Come and experience a fun filled day and see this unique coastal military fort that provides a visual record of military history from the 1820's to the end of World War II.
