Newport polo series turns 16

The Newport International Polo Series turned 16 this year, when it kicked off the 2007 series on June 2.

Every Saturday through September, exciting polo matches will be held at Glen Farm, located on the outskirts of Newport, six miles to the north on Route 138 in Portsmouth, RI.

Competitors this year will travel from Ireland, Spain, Scotland, Egypt, Jamaica, France, England, and Mexico as well as from the Northeast circuit of polo clubs.

This season will witness Mexico's debut in the Polo Series, just weeks before they host polo's World Championship FIP tournament. "We will have to play our very best against this formidable rival," states Dan Keating, captain of the U.S. team.

"The season will open against an ancient rival, Egypt, and will be non-stop polo action all summer long, with tough challengers and great social events throughout the season for our fans," adds Keating.
