Student book clubs this summer
The library is offering book clubs for students in grades 4 through 8.
Grades 4 and 5 will discuss "Weetamoo: Heart of the Pocassets," by Patricia Clark Smith, on Thursday, June 28, from 7 to 8:15 p.m.
In her first book for The Royal Diaries, the author, who is part Micmac Indian, relates the 17thcentury story of Weetamoo, who is destined to succeed her father as sachem (chief) of the Pocasset tribe in Massachusetts.
Call or visit the library to reserve a copy of the book. It can also be reserved through the Website. All children entering fourth or fifth grade in the fall are welcome to join.
Grades 6 through 8 will meet on Friday, July 13, from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. to discuss "The Black Duck," by award-winning Rhode Island author, Janet Taylor Lisle.
The Black Duck takes place in coastal Rhode Island during the prohibition era. The book is historical fiction and also full of intrigue! Black Duck is one of the RI Teen Book Award nominees for 2008.
