Players of all ages tops at tennis

Last Sunday morning clouds gave way to sunshine and by the afternoon champions were crowned in the mixed, men's and women's doubles division of the Second Annual Roger Chase Memorial Tennis Tournament presented by Jamestown Fitness.

In the men's final, youth prevailed as Dan Hansen, 13, and Sam Baines, 15, defeated Dean Chase, Roger's son, and Phil Nason, in three sets. Experience, however, prevailed in the mixed final as Joan Woodford, 73, and Ben Algeo, beat Sara Heath, 11, and Tim Heath, in a tense, third-set tiebreaker. Gail Martin and Terry Leffers defended their title in the women's division by defeating Susan Heath Wynn and Paul Spencer in straight sets.

The tournament raised $2,164 to benefit the Jamestown Fire Department and Medical Fund.

Mixed Consolation: Steve and Linda Pickin defeated Jennifer Stearns and Brad Martin.

Women's Consolation: Mary Kruger and Keleigh De Socio defeated Margie Holmes and Tracy Ouellette. In the Men's Consolation: Jeff and Scott Heath defeated John and Dana Hardy.
