Lucille K. Lawrence, 81

Lucille K. (Avery) Lawrence, 81, of Beacon Avenue, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Vanderbilt

Rehabilitation

Center of Newport Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Norman E. Lawrence, Sr. for 60 years.

Born in Cook County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late William and Alice Leola Pearl (Schoffield) Avery.

Mrs. Lawrence was a bookkeeper for Independent Life Insurance Company in Jacksonville, Fla. prior to her marriage and later worked as a school bus driver for the Jamestown School Department. For ten years she worked for Greta's Florist in North Kingstown. An active member of the Central Baptist Church, she was a member of the Shepherds, was a Sunday school teacher, treasurer and assisted with the landscaping. She was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Besides her husband she leaves six children, Timothy S. Lawrence and Janice C. Ryng-Dutton of Jamestown, Norman E. Lawrence, Jr. of Pennsylvania, George S. Lawrence of Everett, Wash., William A. Lawrence of New Bedford, Mass., Patricia S. Nascimento of Coventry; a brother, John A. Avery of Ray City, Ga.; a sister, Alice Frances Tatum of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by seven siblings.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at Central Baptist Church in Jamestown. Burial will be on Saturday in Brushy Creek Cemetery, Georgia. Arrangements were by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Habitat for Humanity of RI, Greater Providence, Box 37, Providence, RI 02907 or the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., St. 304, Warwick, RI 02886 will be appreciated.
