Two outstanding Jamestown students graduating from North Kingstown High School have been selected to receive the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association's (BLMA) W. Craig Armington Scholarship.
Meryl Evangelista will begin studies in the fall at Elon University, and Caitlin Crawford will attend Wake Forest University, both in North Carolina. Evangelista and Crawford, selected from a very competitive applicant pool, were deemed tops in academics, extracurricular programs, and volunteer activities.
Each student displayed effective writing skills in answering the application question about ways that growing up in Jamestown has shaped her goals and expectations for college and other future endeavors.
BLMA scholarships have been awarded since 1999 in memory of W. Craig Armington, a former treasurer, active with the museum association from its inception in 1993. The all-volunteer BLMA preserves and manages the lighthouse museum and its exhibits which trace, in broad strokes, the history of U. S. lighthouses, using Rhode Island's light stations as examples.
