School property planning talk set
The community is invited to a meeting Monday, June 25, to share thoughts on the Jamestown Schools Best Land Use Plan. The session will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lawn Avenue School library and will be led by the award-winning landscape architectural design firm of Gates, Leighton and Associates, including Jamestown's Arek Galle, landscape architect and planner.
This is an open house, and people can come at any time between 5 and 8:30 p.m. and give their ideas about the plan. This is an exciting project to benefit everyone on the island, including school children biking, walking and riding the bus to school, tennis players, islanders walking for exercise, soccer and baseball players, and environmentally concerned citizens.
The study is about finding the best use for the rectangle of land that runs from Lawn to Watson Avenues, and Melrose to Arnold Avenues and the streets leading into the rectangle to benefit everyone. One area of the study is traffic circulation, which includes bike lanes, walking paths, bus stops and car drop-offs and parking. Another is ball fields, their siting and possible improvements. The third is the rest of the rectangle. Would there be room for an outdoor track, an outdoor classroom or meditation benches in the town forest? Where is the best place for a fitness trail or playground equipment for Lawn Avenue School students?
For anyone who cannot attend, but would like to submit ideas, they can drop them off at the town hall, 245 Conanicus Ave., prior to the meeting.
