Busy fourth for the island band
      The Jamestown Community Band will march in the North End parade in the morning and present a concert at Mackerel Cove before the fireworks start on July 4. Music will include patriotic pieces such as "America the Beautiful," and the "Armed Forces Salute.

Authority's sale of property to town a good neighbor gesture
      Town Administrator Bruce Keiser said last week that he was sorry that his comments in mid- June about delays with a decision on a site for a new highway barn were interpreted by the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) as blame for the delays.

Teen center open for summer fun
      Summer hours at the Jamestown Teen Center will be on Tuesday through Friday afternoons from 3 to 6 p.m. Additional hours for high school students are Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. The teen center is located at the recreation center, 41 Conanicus Ave.

Free 'small ships' event tours
      In celebration of the Tall Ships maritime event visiting Newport harbor this week, Sail Newport and Webster Bank will host free sailing tours of Newport harbor on Saturday, June 30. The "Webster Bank Small Ships Festival at Sail Newport," will be open to the public from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m.
