Crime-fighting talk for teens

"You Never Know," this year's Newport Public Library Teen Summer Reading Program, will begin Monday, July 2, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the library's program room with a free pizza party and an exciting demonstration of crime-solving techniques by a forensic expert from the Rhode Island Crime Lab. The party, along with the entire teen summer reading program, is free and open to all area teenagers in grades 6 to 12.

Teens can participate in "You Never Know" by reading four books between July 9 and Aug.18. Those who finish four books will be invited to the final party and will be entered into a prize drawing for five $20 Providence Place Mall gift certificates and five $10 gift certificates to local stores. Teens can earn even more chances to win by writing book reviews, or by attending weekly teen programs, to be held every Thursday, July 12 to Aug. 16, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Each teen that finishes "You Never Know" will also receive a new paperback book.
