Sgouros landscapes on display at Newport gallery
Didi Suydam Contemporary will host an exhibition of new work by Thomas Sgouros during the month of July in their new location at One Bannister's Wharf off America's Cup Avenue.
The exhibition features new oil paintings from the 80-yearold artist's "Remembered Landscape" series. Sgouros' landscapes invoke coastal horizons, quintessentially New England in nature, and the gallery's backdrop of Newport and Narragansett Bay is a stunning foil for the images. The exhibition opened this week and will run through Tuesday, July 31. A reception with the artist will take place on Saturday, July 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. The gallery is open Sunday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In 2001, he was given a Claiborne Pell Award for lifetime achievement. His work is in numerous corporate and private collections as well as in the collection of museums in Rhode Island, Maine, Alaska, Florida and Ohio.
