Register now for fall soccer in Jamestown
Registration for the fall 2007 recreation soccer league is underway. The process for registering a child is done on-line only, by accessing the Jamestown Soccer Association (JSA) registration forms from the Jamestown Soccer website at www.jamestown-soccer. com. The Web site will direct players to a link for Youth Leagues USA, which has the Jamestown soccer registration form. All soccer associations in Rhode Island are required to register players.
Once again, everyone is asked to register as soon as possible to help avoid any difficulties that may occur in a last minute rush to sign up players. The registration deadline is Aug. 20.
On-line registration cannot be made using a Macintosh computer. For those unable to access the Internet, JSA recommends using the public computers at the Jamestown library.
The registration cost for the first child is $40 and the second child is $35. The cost for three or more children is $100. Scholarships are available upon request.
Following on-line registration, the required payment, along with the printed application and photocopy of the child's birth certificate, should be sent to Roberta Fagan, the new JSA registrar. Players who played in last year's Jamestown fall soccer league do not need to send in a birth certificate.
The fall recreation league is comprised of five divisions. They are: Under 6, (birth date between Aug. 1, 2001 and July 31, 2003), Under 8 (birth date between Aug. 1, 1999 and July 31, 2001), Under 10 (birth date between Aug. 1, 1997 and July 31, 1999), Under 12 (birth date between Aug. 1, 1995 and July 31, 1997) and Under 15 (birth date between Aug. 1, 1992 and July 31, 1995). Jamestown follows the divisions recommended under the Soccer-Rhode Island guidelines and the associated birth dates indicated for each age group. The only exception to this would be if a child is already playing, or has been chosen to play, on a competitive team in a higher age bracket.
The fall season begins on Sept. 8 and will run though Oct. 27. Players will be assigned to a co-ed team in their appropriate age group. Adult volunteers are needed for coaching, concessions and field maintenance. As always, there will be a need for coaches in all age groups. Parents are asked to support their child's involvement in Jamestown soccer through their commitment to participate in some aspect of the program.
