St. Matthew's fair on Saturday

St. Matthew's Church will hold its 76th Summer Fair on the church grounds, 87 Narragansett Ave., Saturday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine.

The sale will feature the fair's almost famous lobster rolls, the Beech Tree Grill serving homemade chowder, hot dogs and hamburgers and a tropical tiki punch stand. A large selection of home baked goods will be for sale.

There will be children's games, a large selection of toys, a great selection of books, household furniture, small appliances, sporting goods, jewelry and attic treasures for all tastes and budgets.

Inside the parish hall, this year's silent auction will offer bidding opportunities for antiques and collectible items, art work and attic treasures. There also will be the opportunity to bid on several special experiences, including a cruise on the Schooner Arabella to your choice of the Caribbean, New England or Chesapeake Bay waterways, a $4,000 value, a timeshare week in Coco Beach, Fla., a slopeside condo at Sunday River, Maine, for a leaf-peepers weekend, and a weekend for two at a boutique hotel located right on Park Avenue. Winners not present will be notified by telephone. Proceeds of this annual event benefit the operation and outreach ministries of the parish.

St. Matthew's popular Thrift Shop will be open during the fair.

In other news from St. Matthew's, Sunday worship hours will be 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. during July and August. The choir performs during the 9:30 a.m. service and nursery care is available during that service as well. The parish looks forward to the return of its summer friends and always welcomes newcomers of any denomination. For more information, contact Suzanne Wheelock at 423-9912.
