Grant to aid land use study
The Newport County Fund of The Rhode Island Foundation has awarded $90,000 to 13 projects that address a wide variety of issues in the region's six cities and towns, including one grant that benefits Jamestown. The foundation seeded NCF with a $2.5 million endowment five years ago. A local advisory committee recommends grants to the foundation to supplement the foundation's other grant making across the county.
Greenways Alliance of Rhode Island, a Jamestown group, received a $10,000 grant to assist with the cost of conducting an engineering/ land use study of Jamestown's developing bike paths, roadways, entrances to Jamestown's two schools, ball fields, and recreational facilities. The four-phase study will help identify needs, costs, and resources to develop and improve safe bike and pedestrian access to the schools and athletic fields, encouraging people to minimize driving.
