Hear big band music Sunday

Summer music in Jamestown continues on Sunday, July 29, with the return of Mike Lyons and the Blue Moon Orchestra, a 17-piece "big band."

This group was an audience favorite last summer and is back by popular demand. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the East Ferry Memorial Square.

After studying at Berklee College of Music, bandleader Mike Lyons spent eight years as second trumpet and occasional singer with several jazz orchestras before finding his own voice for big band classics, and especially Sinatra-style vocal arrangements. Lyons has put together a swinging band, which has delighted audiences around the state.

Bring beach chairs or blankets to East Ferry Memorial Square this Sunday for a swinging evening by the bay.

The show is sponsored by the Jamestown Police Officers Association. In case of rain, the show will be held at the recreation center.
