The Afternoon Book Discussion at the Jamestown library continues on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at l p.m. with the book "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan," by Lisa See. After a lively discussion of "The Devil in the White City," the group decided to hold an August meeting. New participants are always welcome. More ... The Quononoquott Garden Club will commemorate the 350th Anniversary of the purchase of Conanicut Island from the Narragansett Indians with "Tea and Delicacies," at the community center on Monday, Aug. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $3.50 at Baker's Pharmacy and the Secret Garden. There are only 100 available, so plan to get them early. More ... The island's veterans groups will commemorate Victory Day on Monday, Aug. 13, by displaying U.S. flags at the East Ferry Veterans' Memorial Square. Volunteers are needed to help put up the flags at 7 a.m. on Monday, and to take them down again at 3 p.m. More ... The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department Summer Music Series continues the season this Sunday evening, Aug. 12, at the East Ferry Memorial Square with a concert by one of Rhode Island's finest jazz musicians, international recording artist Greg Abate. More ... The 18th Annual Talent Show, "350 Years: Then and Now," has something for everyone, with both new and repeat performers. So far, signed acts include John Biddle, Emily Anthony, Ava White, the Kathy Brownell follies, Janet Grant on piano, and the Barbershop group, "Just 4 Fun." Several surprises and at least two world premieres of new songs are promised. More ... The Jamestown farming community has put together two special events as part of the 350th Anniversary celebration. Historic New England's Watson Farm will be hosting a guided tour on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m. Led by farm managers Don and Heather Minto, this tour will focus on the agricultural history of Conanicut Island. There is a $3.50 fee for the tour. More ... Artists of all ages can show off their talents on Wednesday, Aug. 15, in a one-day sidewalk art extravaganza to be held around the recreation center from noon to 3:30 p.m. The cost to enter is $5 per square, and each team or individual will be provided with a set of pastel chalks to create a drawing within a 4- by 4- foot square.
