Abate headlines Sunday concert

The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department Summer Music Series continues the season this Sunday evening, Aug. 12, at the East Ferry Memorial Square with a concert by one of Rhode Island's finest jazz musicians, international recording artist Greg Abate.

Co-sponsored by Integrated Management Solutions, Inc. and Trattoria Simpatico, Abate is a world-class alto sax player, and his outdoor show in Jamestown is an event that music lovers should not miss.

Abate is noted by jazz reviewers as one of the best post-be bop alto players today. His playing is sincere, intense and swinging. Since graduating Berklee College of Music in 1971, Abate has gained international recognition performing with the likes of Ray Charles and the Artie Shaw Orchestra.

The concert takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and is free to the public. Bring blankets or beach chairs and enjoy an evening of cool jazz. In case of rain, the show will be held across the street inside the community center.
