Marine artist John Mecray of Jamestown has just finished a painting of Courageous succesfully defending the America's Cup in 1977. The work was commissioned by American media mogul and philanthropist Ted Turner, who skippered the winning defense. Turner will present the painting to the New York Yacht Club at the 30th anniversary reunion of the yacht's crew in Newport. More...

Approximately three weeks ago, the new harbormaster's boat, manufactured by Ribcraft of Marblehead, Mass., was hauled out of the water for what harbor authorities assumed was routine maintenance and warranty repairs. The Quononoquott Garden Club has announced the winners of the Jamestown 2007 Civic Beautification Contest. Judging of containers, window boxes and in-ground gardens took place in late July and ribbons were awarded this week.
