Why the beach plums are dying
When the state resurfaced the connecting road between Conanicut Island's main part and the Beavertail peninsula a few years ago, they made a grievous mistake. This mistake was the planting of some two-dozen beach plum trees (prunus maritima) in the rocks at the extreme western edge of the Mackerel Cove beach.

Art exhibit helpers praised
The CIAA's annual art exhibit may be the most important event we hold each year. Each member artist is invited to have their best work hung in the community center for everyone to enjoy. This opportunity simply wouldn't happen without many helping hands.

Special thanks to Art's Auto Body, who provided the trophies and has done so for many years, and to Quaker Lane Bait and Tackle for supplying the bait.

Chief Sachem and the 350th
I would guess that many people believe the 350th Celebration marks the anniversary year of the purchase of Jamestown by colonists from the local Indian leader, Conanicus. This is not accurate. Conanicus died years before 1657, and the name "Jamestown," (in Rhode Island) did NOT exist until 1678, when it was incorporated.

Lot 47 still the best choice
There seems to be a lot of false information going around about the highway barn proposed for Taylor Point. First of all, I keep hearing that Taylor Point will be more efficient and less costly to operate because it is more centrally located. I don't think so.

Reject barn location
As a former Town Councilor for the Town of Jamestown, I am urging all voters of Jamestown to reject the Taylor Point site for the highway barn.
