      Monday, Aug. 13 Victory Day, all town offices closed. Tuesday, Aug. 14 7 p.m., Ft. Wetherill, the Conservation Commission meets. 7 p.m., Lawn Avenue library, the School Committee meets. 7 p.m., library, the Town Council meets.

Police Log
      Drunk driving charged Thomas J. Murphy, 49, of North Kingstown was charged Aug. 1 with first offense drunk driving and refusal to take a Breathalyzer test after he was stopped for speeding and swerving on North Main Road. Murphy was held overnight at the police station. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Aug. 18 at Newport District Court, police said.

Town hall records
      Building permits Robert and Judith A. Kinzel received a permit on July 31 to reshingle the back of a home and install gutters at 74 Lawn Ave., work estimated to cost $6,700. Edwin Kurtz received a permit on July 31 to construct a 16- by 10- foot shed at 196 Conanicus Ave., work estimated to cost $4,500.

Fire and EMS Runs
      Fire runs 5:43 p.m., July 30, Car 1, Ladder 1, Engines 1, 2 and 3 were dispatched to 160 East Shore Rd., for a carbon monoxide detector activation. No CO was found. 10:36 a.m., July 31, Ladder 1, Car 3, and Engine 1 were sent to Post Road, North Kingstown for a cover assignment.
