Tour of library museum tomorrow

Join the Friends of the Jamestown Library and celebrate the history of Jamestown on Friday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Sydney L. Wright Museum as Jane Bentley gives two lively and informative tours of the museum.

Bentley taught at the Jamestown school for 28 years and every year, whatever grade she taught, she always included the history of Jamestown. She served as an officer on the Jamestown Historical Society for twenty years and was in charge of house tours. In her capacity on that board, she also gave several tours of Narragansett Avenue and will be doing that this summer for the Historical Society for the 350th anniversary of the founding of the town.

When she first started teaching, Catherine Morris Wright came into her third grade class to talk about the archaeological dig that took place at the site of the Lawn Avenue School. Bentley's enthusiasm began that day and continues to this. She will speak about those artifacts that were excavated in the 1970s and displayed in the Wright Museum. She will also give a brief overview of the excavation and how it came about and answer questions at the end of the talk. Bentley has lived in Jamestown all of her life and loves to share the knowledge acquired over the years.
