Don't spoil scenic vista at Point
For over twenty-five years I have been involved in the preservation of our island's open spaces and natural beauty. Our farmlands, salt marshes, woodlands and beautiful coast make Conanicut Island a unique place to live.
Taylor Point Park on Potter Cove is a 25-acre public park providing public access to the Bay for fishing, diving, picnicking, swimming or just enjoying the view. Coming over the Newport Pell Bridge from Newport this area is part of the scenic panorama of the farms and salt marshes we all know and love.
It is one of the most scenic vistas in Rhode Island. The community is currently engaged in a major fundraising effort to preserve these farms and the vista they provide, forever! Will removing trees and other vegetation from Taylor Point to provide space for the proposed highway barn, salt dome and large sediment pond impact this vista? Will the potential discharge of runoff from this facility into Potter Cove affect our enjoyment of this recreational area? Will the area look as we know it today? Please visit this area and ask yourself these questions before you decide how you will vote next Tuesday. And finally, will future generations be happy with your decision.
