      Building permits Patricia A. Donnelly received a permit on Aug. 21 to erect a 10- by 10-foot garden shed at 100 Garboard St., work estimated to cost $2,000. Chris Irby received a permit on Aug. 21 to construct a deck on the southwest corner of a house at 7 Calvert Place, work estimated to cost $1,800.

      Monday, Sept. 3 Labor Day, all town offices closed. Tuesday, Sept. 4 Noon, deadline for Sept. 10 town council agenda. Wednesday, Sept. 5 2 p.m., library, Probate court convenes. 7:30 p.m., library, the Planning Commission meets.

The vote by the numbers
      Jamestowners on Tuesday approved the construction of a new highway garage at Taylor Point by a vote of 934 to 753. The referendum passed with 55.36 percent voting to approve and 44.64 percent voting to reject. Election officials said 1,687 of the 4,479 registered voters in Jamestown participated in Tuesday's special election for a 37.66 percent turnout.

Fire and EMS Runs
      Fire runs 8:30 a.m., Aug. 20, Car 3 and Engine 2 were dispatched for a mutual aid call on Post Road in Narragansett. 9:30 a.m., Aug. 20, Special Services 1 answered a water evacuation call on Douglas Street. 5:50 p.m., Aug. 23, Car 3 and Engine 3 responded to a false alarm on Southwest Avenue.

Police Log
      No contact order violated Samuel Baugh, 54, of 73 Carr Lane was charged Aug. 22 with violation of a no contact order and with violating terms of his probation, police said. He was arraigned and transferred to the Adult Correctional Institutions where he is being held without bail. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 4 at Newport District Court, police said.
