Cruise to the vintage car show
Vintage car enthusiasts have something to look forward to this weekend. The annual Jamestown Seaside Family Cruise will be at Ft. Getty on Sunday, Sept. 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In recent years, some 200 classic cars have made the trip to Jamestown to park on the hill overlooking the bay. On beautiful, sunny days, the chrome just gleams at that location. According to organizer Art Washburn, of Art's Auto Body, the Jamestown show has become a favorite of car owners around the state because the location is so picturesque, the breeze feels great and the event is laid back.
Admission for spectators is free, and car owners will pay $10 to enter the show. Trophies will be given to "top picks," as chosen by the trophy sponsors, Washburn said.
This is the eighth year that Washburn, his wife Jan, and helpers from the auto body staff have organized the show, Washburn said.
The Portuguese American Citizens' Club will sell refreshments at their booth, and oldies DJ Bruce Palmer will be spinning tunes throughout the day.
All proceeds will be given to various charities, Washburn said.
