Food and wine star in Newport mansions event

Television chef, author and teacher Nancy Verde Barr has joined the exciting line-up of food and wine experts for the 2nd annual Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festival on Sept. 27 to 29. The former executive chief to Julia Child and culinary producer at Good Morning America will host a seminar, "From Casseroles to Cassoulets: How Julia Child Turned a Jello Nation into a Gourmet Culture," drawing on her 24-year friendship with the French Chef and her recently-published memoir, "Backstage With Julia: My Years with Julia Child."

Celebrity chef Jacques Pépin is also among the headliners for the spectacular weekend, which will unfold in the breathtaking surroundings of Rosecliff and Marble House, two of Newport's most elegant historic mansions. Pépin has published 24 books and hosted nine acclaimed public television cooking series, as well as contributing to The New York Times and Food and Wine. Chef Pépin will host a cooking demonstration, "Bounty From the Sea," featuring recipes from his latest book, "Chez Jacques." He will also be the guest of honor at Wine and Rosecliff on Friday evening, Sept. 28, where guests will enjoy samplings of his recipes as well as tastings of special vintages and limited edition wines.

More than 150 wineries will participate in the weekend, which will also include restaurant wine dinners pairing some of Newport's best chefs with great wineries, seminars with wine and food experts, a Grand Tasting and live auction at Marble House.

Also new to the Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festival this year is Sergio Esposito of Italian Wine Merchants, widely considered the leading expert on Italian wines in the United States. Kevin Zraly, author of the Windows on the World Complete Wine Course, will be back with his "One Hour Wine Expert" seminar, and also will be the guest auctioneer during the Grand Tasting live auction.

The Festival will begin on Thursday evening, September 27, with special wine pairing dinners offered at six Newport restaurants and a very special limited seating dinner hosted by Sergio Esposito at Rosecliff.

Seminars will be offered all three days in various Newport Mansions locations, including Marble House, Rosecliff and The Elms.
