House Tour a great success

Last Saturday, Sept. 8, the Jamestown Historical Society hosted its annual tour of historic houses on Jamestown. The event was an overwhelming success with more than 300 visitors and volunteers enjoying the wonderful houses and the hospitality of the Antine and O'Neill families. We thank our hosts very much for opening their homes so that so many of us could briefly visit the 19th century and learn a little about how summer Jamestowners lived 120 years ago. A special thanks to David Adams, a greatgreat grandson of the first owner of Belvedere (now owned by the Antines), and his wife Debbie for being at the house to talk about his ancestors.

As usual with such a large event, many people were involved in its planning and realization. Mary Heath was our organizational lead. Sue Maden arranged for the volunteers. Harry Wright researched and wrote about the houses. The house guides included Joyce Allphin, Suzi Andrews, Mary Atamian, Jillian Barber, Judy Bell, Jane Bentley, Donna Chellis, Ann Crompton, Donna and Joe Drago, Cynthia Flagg, Eleanor Gravdahl, Betty Gulley, Anna Harrison- Auld, John Horton, Varoujan Karentz, Bill Knapp, Teddy and John Leyon, Shawn Mayers, Lois Migneault, Jane Miner, Carrie Nelson, Ken Newman, Gloria O'Laughlin, Joseph and Katherine O'Neill, Karan Osenton, Linnea Petersen, Connie Rainone, Paula Samos, Barbara Szepatowski, Geoffrey Turner, Nancy Van Devanter, Joan Vessella, Linda Warner, and Dorothy Zenie.

We thank you all for your help and hope you enjoyed your day in these historic Jamestown homes.

Rosemary Enright, Jamestown Historical
